Indaba Music (www.indabamusic.com),
the leading suite of online tools for musicians, today publicly launched
its Session Console 2.0, an innovative digital audio workstation (DAW)
that brings high-quality recording to the web for the first time. The
application is built on Sun Microsystems’ JavaFX platform and is being
launched in conjunction with a contest to remix stems from Rivers Cuomo,
lead singer of the multiplatinum music group, Weezer, who endorsed the
application. The Session Console 2.0 enables all musicians to record
high-quality audio directly to Indaba Music, access advanced mixing and
editing tools as well as use the software either online or offline. For
many, the application eliminates the need to purchase expensive audio
production tools. In addition to today’s DAW launch, Indaba Music also
redefined its professional membership offerings and made live new
Community and Sessions pages.
“Indaba Music’s DAW allows our growing community of more than 200,000
artists to create music in an increasingly more efficient and dynamic
way,” said Dan Zaccagnino, co-CEO of Indaba Music. “With this new tool
musicians can work on a song from any computer, recording high-quality
audio, mixing and editing, using non-destructive effects, and tapping
into a huge pool of loops and audio clips that are pre-licensed for
their use under Creative Commons.”
Indaba Music’s selective redesign and updated professional membership
tiers make the site increasingly more accessible for its geographically
diverse, highly-engaged community of musicians. The new membership tiers
include: a free account, a Pro account for $5.00 per month and a
Platinum account for $25.00 per month. These distinctions provide
musicians with increased access to important features including a
professional clips library with high-quality loops, real-time
non-destructive effects, and an online workspace for songs in progress.
“Sun is excited that Indaba Music has chosen to build their Session
Console 2.0 digital audio workstation on the JavaFX platform to support
musical collaborations across their global community,” said Octavian
Tanase, senior director, Java Platform Group at Sun. “The Session
Console 2.0 is a great example of how JavaFX enables music enthusiasts
to easily work with native device capabilities, like recording and
manipulating music files and powers rich, multimedia applications that
demand fast performance.”
This new application breaks the historic precedent of how music is made
online. No longer do artists need to purchase and install expensive
recording software and upload tracks to the internet before working with
them online. The Session Console 2.0 enables musicians to record
studio-quality audio directly to Indaba Music.
The remix contest gives the Indaba Music community access to the stems
for “My Brain is Working Overtime” off of the album, “Alone II: The Home
Recordings of Rivers Cuomo.” Submissions will be accepted until August
4, voting end August 14, and winners will be announced on August 24. The
first place winner will receive a one of a kind, custom designed
Epiphone G-400 along with other prizes.
