At a time when established jazz “groups” are scarce, GEQ is that rare gem that plays classic jazz, bebop and nu-jazz music of the highest artistic order. GEQ has been respectfully likened to Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers as well as Miles Davis and John Coltrane’s ensembles continuing the rumbling of excellence through their musicianship and professionalism. Composer/Trumpeter, Guymon Ensley originally assembled his band in 2001 and debuted it at the historic "Bakers Keyboard Lounge" in Detroit, Michigan in 2002. In August of 2003, the band had four major tours under their belt, billed with such internationally known artists as Yolanda Adams, Jefferey Osborn, The Isley Brothers, The Whispers and Frankie Beverly.

A Love Affair with Jazz Brings Mary Talbot Fee's New CD Midwinter Night’s Dream to The Jazz Network PDF Print E-mail

Jazz vocalist Mary Talbot Fee will be the featured artist debuting her CD, Midwinter Night’s Dream the week of June 18th on The Jazz Network Worldwide. The collection of jazz standards, international songs and contemporary compositions were produced by Rob & Amber Whitlock of Sketchin’ Records. In addition, they composed three new songs for the disc, including the title track, which was co-authored by Talbot Fee, who fluently sings in four languages on the CD (English, French, Italian and Portuguese). Midwinter Night’s Dream is the culmination of Talbot Fee’s years of jazz vocal study with the likes of Kevyn Lettau and other well-respected vocalists. “Winter’s dream enters my slumber, stills my thoughts, and encourages me to rest, renew and restore for the coming year’s journey,” reflected Talbot Fee about her inspiration for the project.

Nicolas Bearde is certainly not a newcomer on the music scene, for he is an alumnus of Bobby McFerrin's renowned vocal ensemble " Voicestra" and it's offshoot, the vocal sextet SoVoSo, who’s sound has been likened to Jon Lucien, Donny Hathaway, Marvin Gaye and Lou Rawls. Bearde has clearly carved out his own style. A seasoned showman on stage Bearde’s personality shines through his sense of humor, expressive ballads to up-tempo tunes engaging a rapport that captures his audiences as he takes them on a musical journey. We can’t forget his influences as he stepped into the world of performance, “I listened to a lot of radio, and took in everything from the Temptations, Dionne Warwick, Johnny Mathis, and Roy Orbison to Etta James, Lou Rawls and Arthur Prysock.” His listening ear runs the gamut, he’s been singing jazz and rhythm and blues for years and is well seasoned and mature in his delivery. Fred Lipsius is the Grammy Award-winning arranger of the hit song “Spinning Wheel” and original saxophonist /pianist/ conductor with Blood, Sweat and Tears. He has just released "Only Love Exists" - a reflective, soothing, joyful album showcasing his original pieces, orchestrations, and saxophone/piano talents. Two of the tracks feature Fred reciting some of his spiritual poetry over music.
